Title: I Got Pregnant with the Tyrant's Child
Author: Marucomics, Reran, SF_JD
Genre: Fantasy, Romance
Graphic Novel
Rating: 3/5 stars
This story is about a female knight who has a one night stand with the tyrannical emperor and ends up pregnant with his child.
I liked the art and the story was easy to follow. I also thought the female lead was pretty cool. The reason this book didn't get a higher rating from me is the storyline in general. I didn't like the messages that are sort of promoted by the story.
--- SPOILER ALERT ---
While the emperor did seem to have affection for the female lead even before the one night stand, and did attempt to change and become more for the woman he loved, the relationship didn't feel very healthy.
You could walk away from this story with the idea that relationships are worth fighting for, and that you should be willing to become better for the person you love and not easily give up on them, especially if you have a kid together. Those messages are not bad ideas to walk away with. However, I never really grew to like the male lead, and that makes it hard to get behind a romance story.
The male lead felt a little toxic, and while he attempted to become less invasive and controlling for his spouse, he didn't seem like a great emperor either. I don't like the concept that it's okay to be a bad leader as long as you are good to the people you love. Hopefully, he becomes better all around, but you shouldn't ever get married 'hoping the other person will become better.' Also, along with the above note, you should be even more careful about choosing your spouse when a kid is involved.
Clean Read?
There was premarital sex, particularly the one night stand that started the whole story. There are also suggestive scenes and some elements of gore.
How do you feel about redeeming arches for male leads, that go from villain type characters and begin to change for love?
Enjoy your next adventure,
